The iconic sycamore vistas of Shanghai stand as timeless witnesses to the generational evolution of this metropolis. In our design proposal for the Bailian No.1 Department Store, we masterfully translated the poetic silhouette of the sycamore into the architectural protagonist of a dramatic triple-height atrium. A curated composition of elegant, colorful sycamore leaves cascades across the ceiling planes and diffuses onto the floor plates, enveloping the volume in an organic botanical narrative. At the nexus of this space, a sculptural metallic helical slide is introduced—seamlessly synthesizing traditional cultural codes with a sleek modern vernacular, thereby augmenting the spatial complexity and enriching the experiential layers of the retail journey.
