Chunghwa Post Fongshan Post Office Design Competition

Kaohsiung, Taiwan

In our proposal for the 2024 Chunghwa Post Fengshan Post Office Design Competition, we envisioned transforming the post office into a vibrant, mixed-use complex. Embracing the concept of a "Vertical City" within a compact site footprint, the design seamlessly integrates postal services, savings and remittances, dining, leisure, entertainment, and corporate offices within layered, stacked architectural volumes. Furthermore, a welcoming public plaza is sculpted on the ground level, purposefully designed to draw foot traffic and channel the vibrant energy upward into the upper storeys.
The building envelope utilizes a glass curtain wall system, whose inherent transparency enhances the sense of openness and establishes visual continuity between the interior and exterior. This connection expands the perceived scale of the space, creating a highly permeable environment that naturally elevates passive security and ease of surveillance. Furthermore, the luminous, expansive entrance coupled with abundant natural daylight renders the waiting area exceptionally comfortable, significantly optimizing the user experience and mitigating the anxiety typically associated with waiting.
Centered around the core philosophy of "Continuity and Innovation," this renovation design is dedicated to preserving the distinctive character of the original architectural facade while seamlessly introducing contemporary design elements, ultimately achieving a harmonious convergence between historical heritage and future vision.
