Chunghwa Post Zhongli Branch Design Competition

Taoyuan, Taiwan

During the architectural design competition for the Chunghwa Post Zhongli Post Office, our firm completely reimagined the site, transforming it into a vibrant, mixed-use architectural landmark. Grounded in the visionary concept of the "Vertical City," we seamlessly integrated diverse programmatic functions—including postal services, savings and banking, food and beverage, retail shopping, leisure, and entertainment—within a series of dynamically stacked architectural massings. Furthermore, by sculpting an open public plaza at the ground plane, the design establishes a powerful civic anchor that fluidly captures urban foot traffic and funnels the vibrant crowds upward through the building's upper storeys.

For the building's facade, we employ a vibrant chromatic palette to symbolize the rich, multicultural tapestry of Zhongli’s diverse demographics. The curvilinear geometry of each floor mimics a dynamic stack of film canisters, forging a tight conceptual synthesis between cinematic entertainment and architecture. Structurally, the signature green associated with Chunghwa Post anchors the lower storeys, while the vibrant purples and blues representing the retail mall and cinema complex envelop the mid-to-high levels. This highly expressive color strategy is intentionally engineered to capture public attention, acting as a catalyst that injects new commercial opportunities and cultural discourse into the district.
