During the architectural competition for the Chunghwa Post Changhua Guangfu Road Post Office, our design carefully weighed historical trajectories and local cultural heritage. To honor its lineage, we preserved the building's historic Japanese-Western eclectic style, employing modern reinforced concrete (RC) for the primary structure while cladding the facade in rich red brick tiles to evoke a sense of temporal continuity. Deeply integrating Changhua's regional identity, the architectural composition seamlessly weaves the iconic imagery of Mount Bagua into the building’s overarching massing and formal geometry.
We strategically employ color to articulate spatial differentiation; each program unit is highlighted with its own distinct hue, ensuring every space commands attention as a protagonist. Green symbolizes the civic presence of the post office; red honors and preserves the heritage of the existing brick wall; while purple represents the dynamic energy of the cinema complex. This rich, curated chromatic composition across the facade infuses the historic postal edifice with a sleek, contemporary fashion sensibility, ultimately injecting a sense of playfulness and vitality into the urban fabric.
