Shaking off the cold, rigid stereotype often associated with industrial manufacturing facilities, Wele Mechatronics\u2014a leading global brand in high-end machine tools\u2014has transformed its corporate headquarters in the Central Taiwan Science Park into a model green building that harmonizes exterior aesthetics with interior humanistic design vocabulary. Sustainable environmental development lies at the core of green architecture; it ensures that while engineering functions are maximized to meet human needs, the structure peacefully coexists with the ecosystem.\n\nIn terms of volumetric and facade design, a matrix frame is utilized as a sculptural element, stacking an orderly and layered form that expresses a well-structured aesthetic of modern engineering. The main facade faces west; to mitigate excessive western sun exposure, architectural grilles are implemented. These allow natural light to filter in freely while providing effective shading, significantly boosting the energy efficiency of the indoor HVAC system. As the headquarters merges office workspaces and industrial manufacturing plants within a single structure, the window placements were meticulously calculated to protect the production base from equipment damage caused by direct sunlight. Consequently, most windows are positioned in the office areas, while the factory floor features selective openings to harvest daylight and eliminate unnecessary electrical waste.\n\nWhile parking spaces are conventionally placed underground or on surface lots, this project uniquely relocates parking from the ground to the rooftop, liberating more ground area for greenery to balance the harsh imagery of industrial architecture. Lightwells are also integrated into the roof to channel natural daylight down into the production workspace. In alignment with eco-friendly principles, a landscape eco-pond and sprawling lawns are situated in front of the building. As hot air passes over the water, its temperature drops, delivering a cool breeze into the interior.
